let’s talk makeup

I’m going to let you guys in on a little secret...
I have absolutely no clue what I’m doing when it comes to makeup.
None. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Not even a little bit. Ithinkyougetthepointsoimgoingtostoptalkingnow.
Today I thought I’d share with you the few products that I use and love.
But really, I want to hear what YOUR favorite products are!
Lately, I’ve been in a beauty rut and am ready to change up my look a bit.
I’ve always said I’d never dye my hair again (I haven’t for 6 years) but I’m even getting the urge to do that.
So before I do something drastic, I thought you could maybe (hopefully) share some of your favorite makeup/skin products and routines.

Here are a few of mine:
  1. This is my absolute favorite eyeshadow palette ever. I only use about 4 or 5 of the colors on a regular basis and it's lasted me almost two years. My favorite colors in the palette include Sidecar (absolute favorite!), Naked, Sin, Darkhorse, and Creep.
  2. My second favorite eyeshadow palette? Naked 2, of course. I love Bootycall, Chopper, YDK, and Blackout.
  3. I found this little gem on The Daybook a long time ago and knew I had to have it. It is by far my favorite summer lip color. I’ve had the same tube for over a year because you only need to reapply once or twice through the day. The best part? It’s under $10! You can seen me wearing Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Fuchsia Fever here.
  4. My aunt taught me at a young age to take good care of my skin and trust me, the results show. She’s 48 and doesn’t look a day over 35. I’d show you her photo but then she probably wouldn’t be too happy with me for revealing her age on my blog. So what are her secrets to clear skin? Always wear sunscreen, wash your face twice per day, drink lots of water, and moisturize! Epicuren Apricot Cream Cleanser will always be my go to face wash.
  5. Nivea Creme is without a doubt my best kept beauty secret, thanks again to my aunt! I put it on every night and every morning after washing my face. At night, I make sure to put a lot around my eyes and on my eyelids to keep them moisturized. Without moisturizer, my skin gets very dry very fast so this stuff is a lifesaver. I never put in on my chin (my acne problem area) as it is very thick and instead use an acne face moisturizer there.
  6. I seriously don’t know what I would do without this stuff. Before I discovered it, my eye makeup would always smear and come off fairly quickly. Thanks to Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion, everything now stays in place and lasts all day. I just put it on my eyelids prior to putting on eye makeup.
  7. I’ve had a lip color love affair with Avon Slick Tint in Glossy Opal since I was in high school. It is by far my favorite pinkish nude lip color and I wear it almost everyday. When I want more of a glossy look, I add my favorite lip gloss (see #8). You can see me wearing the Avon Slick Tint in Glossy Opal here.
  8. I just discovered Nars “Born This Way” lip gloss last weekend, and it is my absolute favorite! I swear by Nars because it stays on for hours at a time, and it’s thick without being goopy (my biggest pet peeve ever when it comes to lip gloss). Before finding “Born This Way,” I always wore Nars in “Turkish Delight” which is supposedly Kim Kardashian’s go to lip gloss. (LOL)
  9. Rimmel Exaggerate Eyeliner in “Noir” is just the best. It’s cheap ($4-6 depending where you buy it) and it actually shows up. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve bought a black eyeliner that just doesn’t show up! This one is great, stays on all day, and doesn’t smear.
  10. Seche Vite’s top coat is the absolute best. I’ve tried quite a few top coats include OPI and Essie and nothing compares.
  11. OPI “Princesses Rule” nail polish is the only nail polish I’ve actually run out of. I’m a total nail biter, but this stuff just doesn’t come off. It’s also very subtle so when it does finally start to chip, no one will notice.
  12. Before getting lash extensions, this was the only mascara I would use. I’ve tried sooo many different mascaras because I have short lashes and wanted something to lengthen and thicken them. This mascara does a great job at thickening them without clumping.
  13. Neutrogena’s SkinClearing Blemish Concealer is a total lifesaver. Is it just me or do breakouts come at the worst possible time? Like right before a vacation, or birthday, or family photos? This Concealer completely hides the redness and I just love it.
That’s all I’ve got for you.
But we’re not done!
I seriously have no idea where to start with bronzers, or blushes, or foundation or any of that stuff.
I’d love some good bronzer recommendations, and I’m always looking for a fun new lip color.
And please help me out in the eye department, I haven’t worn anything but my Naked palettes for TWO years.
So yeah, spill your secrets!
And maybe we can all learn a thing or two from one another.

P.S. A big congrats to Lindsey W. for winning October’s Group Giveaway!

I use NARS turkish delight too :)
and my go to lipgloss is..lipsmackers cotton candy. true story. I guess it's more like chapstick then haha. But I love it and have since high school too. I use a really really inexpensive bronzer by NYC. Its not over the top and it isnt shimmery so it looks natural...I've tried ALOT of them (hello Irish skin) and this is by far my favorite.
I think I need to try this Naked eye shadow, I keep seeing it pop up!

Great post! Always looking for new make up to try. My fav beauty product would definitely have to be Mac- Studio Fix/ Powder-foundation. A M A Z I N G. Seriously hides everything!

I love my Naked palette, Primer Potion & Seche Vite too!

For recommendations - my fav bronzer is Too Faced Sun Bunny. I've used it for years. I just bought the UD Vice palette & it's so fun! It makes the OG palettes look a little boring but there are some everyday colors in it. I need to pick a foundation, too. I want to try MUFE or UD Naked Foundation, I just need to get to Sephora to find a match.

Oh & I forgot eyeliner! I just bought the UD 24/7 liner set & they are amazing. Best I've ever used.

I'm a big fan of e.l.f. cosmetics! The countouring blush and bronzing powder is great (and only $3!). I used the Naked most days but I also LOVE Clinique's Colour Surge Eye Shadow Quad in Spicy. It's the best!

I really want the Naked palette!

I love the Naked Palettes! I was so obessed with Urban Decay a couple years ago! Try Smashbox too! Every year for black friday they come out with a "caboodle" of colors! (Ok, so maybe I am the only one who calls them "caboodles.") It has like 50 eye shadows, eyeliner pots in several colors (which is my favorite thing ever,) blush, bronzer lip gloss ect. Its like $60 at Ulta and it last sooo long.

BTW your blog is too cute! XOXO

I so want the Naked eye shadows! That is on my Christmas list! :) For foundation I have always used Merle Norman, it is now a family thing. My mamaw wore it, my mom wears it, and now I do. I like their Purely Mineral makeup. Mine last me for about a year but I also don't cake a bunch on. I also like it because it adds a little sparkle in it. I have also just started using Stilleto for my eye liner and I am in LOVE with it! For eyes I have been using a Revelon neutral pack. I hope this helps! :)

Those are great picks! I am completely beauty obsessed and I still always fall back to my naked palette! You can do almost any look with those 2 palettes combined! The two faced palettes are also great if you are in the mood for something else - I have also been loving the new Lorac Pro Palette! Also - wet n'wild has some great pigmented palettes that you can buy at the drugstore and they rock!

I'm such a makeup junkie...I could probably open a mini ulta out of my bathroom. Its sad. I never bought the naked pallet because I have three MAC pallets full of eyeshadows and own a dupe to every single color. Seche Vite is the best, but I'm going to have to try that mascara. Great post girl.

I love the Naked palettes but Stila makes a great one as well! I also use NARS "orgasm" blush..it really is as good as they say. As for foundation, I think Revlon Photoready is the best drugstore buy!! I always love hearing what others are using so thanks for sharing!

So I can totally relate to the urge of change... you can see my hair changes on my blog: monkeysandtwinklestars.blogspot.comI went from dark hair to ombre. It's fun and I love it for now. I am also addicted to Youtube videos on make up tutorials and hauls. This is a great place for inspiration. I have posted a few of my favs on a post. My current loves are: bronzers from Rimmel they are cheap and work great especially for contouring. I love the Eye tattoo cream eyeshadows from Maybelline and also the Liner stilleto from them as well. One last love is the Loreal True Match foundation... it's the best for sure! I truly want the Naked Palette and will hopefully have this in my stocking this year for Christmas!!!! Hope this helps!!!

XOXO

For a variety of colors I love the 88 Color Palette from Coastal Scents. They are online coastalscents{dot}com and cheap like $5-24. They also have similar to MAC the make your own palettes. For a bronzer I love the Physicians Formula Bronzer. It has different shades and lite shimmer but not a lot. You can get it at the local drugstores.
